List of Maharashtrian Jewellery for a Bride
Nath: A uniquely designed Nath is worn by the Marathi ladies on her nose on every special occasion like a wedding and pooja. The Nath is available in different sizes in a crescent shape studded with pearls and stones.
Mohan Mala: It is a long beaded rich-looking necklace made in gold. This gold necklace set has multiple layers of beads that may vary from 2-8. It is unique and provides a rich look when worn by the bride.
Thushi: The most famous among other Maharashtrian jewellery is Thushi which is a choker-style necklace set made with tightly woven gold beads and an adjustable string so that it can be worn comfortably by anyone. The brides mostly combine this piece of jewellery with a Paithani saree to get a rich and stylish look.
Kolhapuri Saaj: This necklace set is very special for every Maharashtrian woman and is treated equivalent to their gold mangalsutra. The saaj has a special design made of jaav mani and leaves shape pendant. The necklace has 21 pendants where 10 pendant defines ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, 8 pendants for good happenings (“Ashtmangal”), 2 for stones like ruby, emerald, and last one as a taviz.
Lakshmi Haar: It is considered temple jewellery made of coins. Every coin in the necklace is adorned with goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh.
Choker Moti Haar: As the name suggests, it is a choker-style necklace set on which the pearls are tightly woven without leaving any space. To make it more attractive, several pendants are added to it. It is also called “Tikada Set”.
Vaaki: A beautiful armlet made of gold was traditionally worn on both arms by the Maharashtrian brides. But now the brides love to wear it on only one arm. It is available in many designs and styles now but the traditional one has flat studded with a stone engraved in the middle.
Rani Haar: It is the most important piece of Maharashtrian jewellery, mostly available with every bride in the state. Kaan: The traditional ear cuffs are called Kaan in Maharashtrian jewellery. These are uniquely styled ear cuffs made of gold and studded with pearls. They are different from the normal earrings and cover the complete ear.
Ambada: It is the name given to the bun pin that is tied around the hair bun of the bride. It is also made of gold.
